Pranayam --> After two hugely successful out n out commercial bonanzas,Mohanlal came up with the performance of the year as Mathews in Blessy's poetic tale,Pranayam. After the critical n commercial successes in Thanmathra & Bhramara,Blessy once again provided a character which gives prominence to Mohanlal's acting skills over the star image n thus allow the audience to relish the brilliance onscreen..Mohanlal himself was quite excited to play the role of a semi parlayzed character who spends most of his time on a wheelchair. The biggest highlight of this film was the competition among Mohanlal,Anupum Kher (as Achuthan Menon) and Jayapradha (as Grace) along with Anoop Menon. The frames of Satheesh Kurup & the songs from M Jayahandran-ONV Kurup team were super. Mohanlal also reprises Leonard Cohen's "I Am Your Man",which was particularly appreciated by the critics where one of them went on to quote "while Lal was rendering Cohen's soulful "I am your Man" in the film,he mesmerized us by keeping the character throughout the song by taking some stress n strain while singing. This shows why he is considered as a genius among the best".Many went on to rate this film as one of the best of 2011 for its skillful direction and brilliance from the cast. This off beat film took the trade pundits by surprise by releasing during Onam Vacation season along with commercial bonanzas and went on to become the surprise winner.Pranayam's success along with Traffic,Melvilasam,Salt n Pepper,Indian Rupee,Beautiful etc etc played a role in bringing a positive change to the Malayalam Film Industry this year.
